General Description
|
Badminton
is a great sport for improving your agility, hand-eye coordination,
and stamina. It is a doubles game, with a minimum of one female
on the court at all times. The ESSC offers Recreational and
Recreational Plus divisions. There is an Event Coordinator on-site
to update players on ESSC happenings and to get the games started.
However, players are expected to call their infractions and
manage their own game. Each team plays two opponents per night
(two matches consisting of three games each). Games are played
on standard badminton courts in medium and large sized gyms
in schools throughout the city. After your game, meet up with
your team mates and other ESSC players while enjoying exclusive
specials at one of our many Sponsor Bars around Edmonton.
Player Testimonial: “Playing in the SSC was a great experience and we met a lot of amazing people while playing Badminton. I would recommend the SSC to anyone that wants to play some competitive or just-for-fun sports and meet some great people at the same time.” – Jason, Monday Badminton |

This league is for beginners who have limited experience playing
badminton. Players should be generally new to the sport and
have not played organized badminton outside of high school.
Smashing will not be a common occurrence in this division. |
Recreational Plus |
This league is for players who have experience playing badminton.
Players should understand basic badminton strategy. Players
may have played organized badminton outside of high school or
were strong badminton players in high school. |
Badminton Club (Not offered Fall 2010) |
All skill levels welcome. Specific courts will be designated for singles, doubles and skill levels. This is a less competitive alternative for members who want to play with and against a variety of other players in different formats. There will be an on-site coordinator that will help facilitate partners and games. |
The
above divisions are created based on skill level and not on competitive
behaviour. All SSC players are expected to play with a ‘fun-first, winning
second’ attitude. The SSC may move your team up or down a division based on
seasonal results. |
