ESSC BADMINTON INFORMATION

REGISTRATION DEADLINE NOW IN EFFECT
Please take note of the registration deadline of Tuesday, April 13th, 2010. Prior to this deadline, all registrants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis; the closer to November 10th that you get your registration in, the better your chances are of making it into the league of your choice. After April 13th, if we require registrants, we will advertise any spots that are available.

General Description

Badminton is a great sport for improving your agility, hand-eye coordination, and stamina. It is a doubles game, with a minimum of one female on the court at all times. The ESSC offers Recreational and Recreational Plus divisions. There is an Event Coordinator on-site to update players on ESSC happenings and to get the games started, however, players are expected to call their infractions and manage their own game. Each team plays two opponents per night (two matches consisting of three games each). Games are played on standard badminton courts in medium and large sized gyms in schools throughout the city. After your game, meet-up with your team mates and other ESSC players while enjoying exclusive specials at one of our many Sponsor Bars around Edmonton.

New in Spring 2010, the ESSC will be offering a "Badminton Club" on Wednesday nights. For the "Badminton Club", there is no set schedule or partners. Registrants have the option to play with and/or against different people each week. All skill levels are welcome. Courts may be designated for different skill levels and formats (ie: singles, doubles, practice, King's court etc). There will be an on-site coordinator that will help facilitate partners and games.

Who Can Play?

The ESSC is an adult league only. All player’s must be 18 years of age, or older, before they participate in any ESSC league or event. We accept all levels of skill and experience by offering a wide range of divisions. We welcome full team, individual and substitute registrations.

 DIVISION DESCRIPTIONS

Division

                                                       Description

Recreational

This league is for beginners who have limited experience playing badminton. Players should be generally new to the sport and have not played organized badminton outside of high school. Smashing will not be a common occurrence in this division.

Recreational Plus

This league is for players who have experience playing badminton. Players should understand basic badminton strategy. Players may have played organized badminton outside of high school or were strong badminton players in high school.

Badminton Club

All skill levels welcome. Specific courts will be designated for singles, doubles and skill levels. This is a less competitive alternative for members who want to play with and against a variety of other players in different formats. There will be an on-site coordinator that will help facilitate partners and games.

The above divisions are created based on skill level and not on competitive behaviour. All SSC players are expected to play with a ‘fun-first, winning second’ attitude. The SSC may move your team up or down a division based on seasonal results.
