ABOUT THE SPORT

This is a non-contact, ‘fun-first’ Flag Football league. Games are played 5 on 5, with a minimum of 2 females on the field at all times. All receivers are eligible and kicking is permitted. There are 4 downs to a field. The ESSC offers only a Recreational division. Games are located throughout the city and are played on City of Edmonton fields. Four teams play at each field per night. There is an Event Coordinator on-site to facilitate games, however, players are expected to call their own penalties and manage the game. After your game, enjoy ESSC specials at one of our many Sponsor Bars around Edmonton.

  WHO CAN PLAY?

Adults aged 18 and older can join the Flag Football leagues. All Flag Football Leagues in the ESSC are co-ed and self-officiated. The ESSC offers only a Recreational divsion. We welcome full teams, small groups (5 to 8 players but not a full team), friends (2-4 players) and individual registrations. ESSC LEAGUE DETAILS

Season Dates

The Fall 2008 outdoor flag football league begins the week of September 21, 2008 and will run no later than the week of October 26, 2008. The schedule will consist of 5 weeks of play.

Rosters A full line-up consists of 5 players on the field at all times (3 males, 2 females). We recommend teams of 10-13.

Captains who register and pay for a full team retain complete control over their rosters, and can add or remove players as they see fit.

Singles and Small Group registrants are combined together to form teams for the full season. Singles teams will receive their roster by email 48 hours prior to their first game.

Cost

- $270/team (5 week Sunday League),

- $50/individual or friends (1-4 people)

- $40/person for small group (5-8 people).

Facility Information Several fields are used, with 4 teams at each site. The fields used are both private and public, and are located throughout the city.
Equipment All equipment is provided by the ESSC. The Event Coordinator will bring the equipment (which includes Wilson footballs, flags and markers) to the field, and will distribute it among the teams for that night. Players must bring light and dark shirts. Players are expected to help the EC set up and take down the fields for the night.
Schedules

Sunday games may start anytime after 12pm but typically no earlier then 4pm. Schedules will be posted to the website no later than 48 hours prior to the first game.

Note: The ESSC may have to schedule more than one game in an evening if games have been cancelled due to weather or other unforseen circumstances where make-up games are necessary.

Event Coordinators

There is an Event Coordinator (EC) for every 4 teams playing. EC's are volunteers who play for free in the league to help out on game night. Please see Jobs for more details on how to save your fees and become an EC.
Weather Policy The ESSC provides daily game updates that indicate whether or not games have been cancelled due to poor weather conditions. To view our entire weather policy, please click here.
Calling the Shots All players in ESSC Flag Football leagues are responsible for keeping score, calling their own fouls and managing the game.
