Individuals/small groups in a GC'd sport should read this information to get a better understanding of what to expect when playing on a Singles team
Team
Captains: Each singles team should
elect a captain. The captain is responsible for:
i) having pre, mid and post game meetings with the GC
ii) reporting the opponents spirit rating to the GC at the end of each game
iii) confirming the score with the GC at the end of the game
iii) communicating with the ESSC when/if your team is having trouble fielding a
full team
iv) assist with finding subs when necessary
Games
Coordinators (GC’s): DO
NOT call them refs! GC’s are there to help coordinate games by setting up the
gym, keeping time, tracking scores, reporting to the ESSC and calling
fouls/infractions only when players are not doing so themselves. In the event
an unexpected situation arises which prevents a GC from being at your gym,
games must still be played! Players should keep time and track scores. You can
report scores to the ESSC via email at info@edmontonsportsclub.com. If
you have feedback regarding a GC, please submit it here: http://www.edmontonsportsclub.com/register/gcfeedback.php
Sportsmanship: Please ensure your team is familiar with the
sportsmanship policy including the section pertaining to spirit points. The
policy can be found here: http://www.edmontonsportsclub.com/leagues/sportsmanship.shtml If you encounter a sportsmanship problem at one of your games, please submit
your feedback here: http://www.edmontonsportsclub.com/register/sportsmanship.php
Schedules: Schedules will be posted no later than 11:00pm two days prior to the day your league starts.
Team Packs:
Fall/Winter seasons: one member of each team is given a pack, including sponsor bar cards, at the Players Meeting.
Spring season: this season does not include Players Meetings. However, because sponsor bar cards are new, one member of each team will be mailed a team pack. If your team has not received theirs within the first 2 weeks of the season, please email: info@edmontonsportsclub.com
Summer season: this season does not include Players Meetings nor does it require new sponsor bar cards. Therefore, each team is responsible for requesting cards online via this link: http://www.edmontonsportsclub.com/register/sponsor-bar-cards.php
Subs:
Game substitutions: All players get equal
opportunity to play – no matter what the girl:guy ratio is. For example: if
your team has 9 females and only 3 males, the 3 males do not play the entire
game leaving the girls to sub in for each other. All players will sub in to
ensure that each player receives equal play time.
Roster substitutions: Singles teams cannot bring out friends unless
they are a direct replacement of a registered player. The original size of your
roster (8, 10, 12 players etc), is the MAXIMUM number of players permitted at
each game. If you know in advance that you will be unable to attend a
game, please let your teammates know. Help your team avoid defaulting by
finding yourself a sub. Anyone is eligible to sub so long as they are
over 18 and have completed an online waiver. The
ESSC can provide sub lists when requested. Call 780-429-4263 to get a sub list.
Skill Levels: Singles teams will have a variety of skill
levels:
Skilled Players: Be patient, encouraging and kind. Do not
over-coach. Teach the basic rules only if a beginner wants to know more. Too
much coaching is perceived as negative feedback and not helpful. Positive
encouragement is the best coaching tactic!
Beginners: Be positive and make a commitment to yourself and your team to learn the
basic skills and gain a full understanding of the rules as soon as you can! If
you are unsure about something, just ask the more experienced players on your
team! Be receptive to feedback that is offered from teammates.
Facility Policy: Any team or player
who causes the ESSC to receive a complaint from a facility will be subject to a
minimum $100 fine and possible league suspensions and/or ejections. To review
the full policy, click here: http://www.edmontonsportsclub.com/leagues/player-info.shtml#Locations
Standings: Standings are updated on a regular basis. If you notice an issue with
your standings, please let us know right away – do not wait until playoffs!
Jerseys: Depending on the sport, you may be required to bring a light and a
dark shirt to each game; this will be specified in the rules for your sport.
Although jerseys are not required, you may wish to have them made. If so, get them through the official ESSC uniform supplier - Team Skyline; click here for more information.
