Team Placement

  • The ESSC will group together all individual and small group registrants in the same league (sport/day/division) to create a full team which will play together for the duration of the season.
  • The ESSC will start putting teams together as registrations come in. When, or if, an individuals team is finalized, all players will be emailed a roster that will have the contact information for their teammates. This will likely occur two days before the first scheduled game.
  • If there are not enough individual and small group registrants to complete a team, players will be contacted regarding moving to a different league.
  • Any players that are unable to be placed onto a team will receive a full refund.

Rosters

  • The ESSC will always accommodate group registrations. Anytime a player registers with more than one person, or requests to be put on the same team as another individual, the ESSC will ensure that this happens (whenever possible).
  • The ESSC will form Individuals Team rosters based on the number and gender of registrants. In all cases, the ESSC will attempt to put an adequate number of players allowing for;
    • Optimal playing time for each individual on the roster.
    • Avoidance of defaults.
      • Individual teams make up ~85% of defaults each season.
      • If a team feels as though they do not have enough players, it is likely because there were not enough registrations; in these cases, teams are encouraged to recruit extra players.
      • If a team feels as though they have too many players, it is because the ESSC builds rosters above the minimum requirement in order to prevent the occurrence of defaults.
  • Small Groups:
    • The ESSC determines the final number of players on each roster. To control the exact number of players on a roster, players should consider recruiting more players and registering as a full team.

Team Management

  • Each Individuals Team should elect a captain. Depending on the sport, the captain is responsible for:
    • Equipment management.
    • Pre-game and half-time meetings.
    • Score reporting.
    • Communication with the ESSC.
    • Finding and requesting subs.

  • Game Substitutions:
    • All players get an equal opportunity to play, regardless of the male/female ratios on the roster.
    • All players must be conscious of their shift time and ensure that substitutions are occurring fairly and regularly.

  • Roster Substitutions:
    • It is not okay to bring out friends or subs unless it is to directly replace a registered player, and the rest of the team has been made aware of the move.
      • Any player who will miss a game, should inform their teammates.
        • When required, the missing player should find a sub or replacement for themselves.

  • Skill Levels:
    • Teams may consist of players with a varying degree of skill in that sport:
      • Beginners - Make a commitment to learn the rules and basic fundamentals. Be receptive to positive feedback and stay positive.
      • Veterans - Be patient, encouraging and kind. Do not over-coach the beginners.
