Sportsmanship
The
ESSC prides itself on offering fun leagues for people to
participate in; we believe that this is the key to our success
and the reason that our players come back season after season.
Sportsmanship is a major factor in the club and we need
your help to make sure all of the teams and all of the players
are abiding by the ESSC sportsmanship policies.
As
captains, you are all required to read through the sportsmanship
policy prior to your first game, it is your responsibility
to make sure that all of the players on your team are behaving
in accordance to the policy. If they are not then you MUST
make them sit out until they have calmed down or remove
them from the game. At no time is a player on your team
to jeopardize the fun or safety of another player.
At
the end of each game give a sportsmanship rating for your
opponents; this will be reported along with the scores.

Rules
It
is the responsibility of each team captain to ensure that
their teammates understand the ESSC Rules for each sport.
The rules for each particular sport can be found on the
each sports league page on the website.
Event Coordinators (EC’s)
Event
Coordinators (EC’s) are present at Volleyball (Beach, Indoor),
Badminton, Flag Football and Ultimate. The EC is a person
that is playing in your league that has volunteered to help
coordinate the games. It is the EC’s responsibility to
bring the equipment to each game, inform players about new
ESSC updates, and to collect and report the scores after
the games are complete. It is NOT the EC’s job to know
all of the rules or mediate disputes, you as captains are
responsible for this.
EC’s
in the ESSC get to play for FREE! If you are interested
in becoming an EC please email the club at info@edmontonsportsclub.com
Games Coordinators (GC’s)
Games
Coordinators (GC’s) are ESSC employees. GC’s are present
at Floor Hockey, Dodgeball, Indoor
Soccer and Basketball. Their main role is to set-up the
facility so it is ready for game time, keep score and keep
the time. The GC’s are NOT trained referees. They are
there to encourage sportsmanlike play and to help keep the
games running smoothly. If players are not calling their
own fouls/penalties then the GC reserves the right to step
and make the appropriate foul/penalty call. For more information
on the role of GC’s please refer to the rules for your particular
sport.
Reporting Scores
VOLLEYBALL
(Grass, Beach, Indoor), BADMINTON, FLAG FOOTBALL, ULTIMATE:
You do not have to report the scores directly to the ESSC,
this is the duty of the EC; however, please make sure you
record your scores and sportsmanship rating on the score
sheet provided at the game so that the EC has something
to report.
FLOOR
HOCKEY, BASKETBALL, DODGEBALL, INDOOR
SOCCER: You do not have to report the scores directly to
the ESSC, this is the duty of the GC; however, please make
sure that the score is accurate and that you report your
sportsmanship rating to the GC.
OUTDOOR
SOCCER & SLO-PITCH: It is the captain’s responsibility
(or Captain designate on singles teams) to report the scores ONLINE by 3pm the
day after your game. In order to have the standings posted
within 48 hours we need to receive your scores in a timely
manner. If you do not report your score, the sportsmanship
rating for your team will be automatically changed to “0”
and the rating for your opponent will be put as “+1”.
How
to report scores:
Please do not email scores
to the ESSC; all scores must be entered online.
Waivers
All
of the people playing on your team MUST sign the waiver
prior to playing in the league. Even if you have played
in past seasons a waiver must be signed by each person every
season.
Online
Waiver - http://edmontonsportsclub.com/register/waivers.shtml It is your responsibility
to make sure that all of the players have signed the waiver.
Subs
If
you are going to be short players for a game you have 2
options:
As
a captain you are responsible for making sure that all of
the subs know the rules and have signed the waiver prior
to playing.
Weather Policy
Here
is a link to the complete weather policy: http://edmontonsportsclub.com/updates/weather-policy.shtml
Sometimes the weather isn’t great… we do live in Edmonton! So Captains need you to be
the ones rallying the troops on those days when people don’t
really want to play. If the weather is extreme we will cancel
the games, if we don’t cancel them, please help us encourage
your players to play, it won’t be as bad as they think!
J
Defaults
Defaulting
is the ultimate act of poor sportsmanship. Any time a team
defaults they will be charged a $50 default
fee. If you default and don’t pay you will not be able to
play again until you do pay. The team that is defaulted
against will receive a direct $50 refund onto the credit
card used to register the team.
Permits
Inddor
Sports:
The ESSC has permits for all of the Public schools that
we use. Generally we are able to access the gym 15 minutes
before our permit time. However, if there is another user
group in the gym when you arrive, please do not enter the
gym or interrupt their play. The EC or GC for your sport
will have the permit for usage and will take care of getting
into the gym.
Outdoor
Sports:
If you ever run into a situation where there is another
group on the field, make sure that you are on the right
field (match the field number/name at the field to the one
on the schedule for your game) and then show the permit
number to the other group. There will never be 2 teams scheduled
for the same time at the same field; if you have a permit
number, the other team can not also have the same one.
We have booked and paid for every field that we send
you to, so you must not back down when confronted by another
group.
Important ESSC Updates
You
will be the primary contact for the ESSC. All of the important
updates throughout the season will be sent just to you.
This means you will get the links to the schedules, standings,
rule updates etc. It is your responsibility to pass it on
to your teammates.
Thank
you for taking the time to read through this document. We
hope that is helps to define your role as a captain and
clarifies any questions that you had. We appreciate your
leadership and are always open to any questions or concerns
that you have.
