Head to Head - Retro Jerseys

In lieu of this past Halloween's hockey game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadians, this week’s head to head topic is retro jerseys: good or bad?

Jason Says: Bad
Retro jerseys are awful.  It’s as simple as that. The hockey game just referenced is the proof in the pudding.  Montreal went with their 1912-1913 striped jerseys that could send even the fit into the clutches of a violent seizure. The only thing worse than the jersey itself is the people who think it’s cool to have retro jerseys.
I admit that you will find the occasional retro jerseys that are great (Oilers jersey worn in the 80’s dynasty).  My point is that, overall, the bad far outweigh the good. Still not convinced?  Take a look of some other “beauties” I’ve come across.

Chris Says: Good
I love the idea of having retro jerseys.
Overall, retro jerseys are great for sparking a nostalgic flame in all of us fans, though
it certainly helps if your team has actually won a championship, like the Oilers. It might even spark the players too (like the Bucs Sunday).
A retro jersey can be a great mix of the old and new. They showcase the modern technology that goes into making a cutting edge jersey, with venting and water repellant fabrics, plus the bold simplicity and colours of designs from 'back in the day".
I will admit, some retro jerseys can show that not all designs are timeless. There is a reason that teams don't wear them every single game, but it is fun to change it up every once in a while. Plus Halloween is a time for goofy and shocking attire so I don't think you can hold it against the Habs for wearing the barbershop uniforms on October 31.
