v2.0 Issue 27 - December, 2009

Thanks to all of our players who helped to make 2009 a great year for the ESSC. Over the past 12 months, we have had over 2500 teams playing with us making it our largest year yet!

ESSC Holiday Gift Guide

With only 16 shopping days left, the ESSC staff thought it might be helpful to offer some suggestions for all of those important people in your life.

The Alcoholic
The Fashionista
The Fitness Buff
The Gamer
The Handyman
The Outdoorsman
The Self Proclaimed World's Best Boss

The Gamer:

Often heard shouting out celebratory phrases like “BOOM, HEADSHOT!”, The Gamer can usually be found in a basement entertainment room in front of the largest video game setup imaginable. With complete control of their peripheral senses, they are able to block out even the loudest of “dinner’s ready” pleas. When the subject arises, they are quick to proclaim their superior ability at all video games, vintage and new, whether or not their acoustic guitar skills can keep up with their virtual guitar skills.

3 Gifts for The Gamer:

1. Newest Next-Gen System – This currently includes the PS3 or the XBOX 360. Let’s face it, the Wii is just a novelty toy to The Gamer.
2. Online Bluetooth headset – The only thing The Gamer likes more than showing off their skills worldwide is letting their adversaries know verbally that they have been pwned.
3. Pizza Delivery Gift Card – No more need to worry about wasting precious gaming time preparing and eating meals with the family.

Christmas Recipe

Black Family Recipe
Christmas is my favorite time of year, and the one thing that makes it extra special is the great baking my family does.  I thought I would share my all-time favorite recipe to make your holidays extra spe
cial!

Chocolate Truffle Squares
This consists of a brownie square and a chocolaty glaze – all chocolate lovers rejoice!

Brownie:

3 squares Bakers Semi-sweet chocolate
2 squares Bakers unsweetened chocolate
½ cup butter or margarine
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

½ cup flour
½ tsp. baking powder
¼ tsp. salt
1 cup miniature marshmallows
½ cup chopped nuts

Melt chocolate and butter together, stirring until smoothly blended. Cool slightly. Beat eggs, sugar and vanilla together, thoroughly in a mixing bowl. Stir in chocolate mixture. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Stir into chocolate batter with marshmallows and nuts. Mix well
Spread in 3” square cake pan lined with aluminum foil. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes
Do not over bake. Cool. Remove from pan and invert onto waxed paper for glazing

Glaze:

4 squares Bakers semi-sweet chocolate
¼ cup whipping cream
Whole nuts to garnish (optional)

Melt chocolate and cream together slowly, stirring until smooth spread over brownie square. Chill to set glaze. Cut into small squares to serve. Garnish with whole nuts, if desired. Store in refrigerator – truffle squares soften at room temperature.
Enjoy!

Head to Head - Worst Gift Ever

We have all gotten a gift that never makes it out of the box. This week's head to head had us thinking of the worst gifts ever, both hypothetical and real. (at least I hope Jen's contribution is hypothetical)

Jen Says:
The Razorba Back Shaver – There is only one way to remove your back hair without enlisting the help of another person. It’s called the Razorba, a strange invention and horrible gift idea. Check it out here: http://www.shopinprivate.com/razbacshavto.html

Jason Says:

Dance Mix ’93… for Christmas ’94. Being off a year only skims the surface of a magnitude of reasons why. After all, I received it from my grandmother. I have no doubt that the reason I received this gift is because my mother knew the CD featured the hit “Whoop! (There it is)”, and suggested I’d love it. What she didn’t know was that back then, I was 11, and in the depths of 90’s rebelliousness. Listening to the likes of the Wu-Tang Clan, Biggie, and Nirvana, not an MC that claimed to be “Takin’ it back to the old school, cuz I’m a old fool, whose soooo cool!”

Sarah Washington? Whoever you are, you didn’t make me believe you loved me nearly as much as Whitney Houston did. Clearly, this rant could go on, but in the interests of time and space, I’ll make my point; The CD, with the exception of House of Pain’s “Jump Around”…is terrible, and the worst gift I've ever recieved. Thanks anyways Nan, I still loves ya!
