Head to Head - Most Memorable Olympic Moment

Chris Says:

In 1996 I think I spent 12 hours everyday watching the Summer games in Atlanta. What better way to spend a summer vacation. I brought a black and white 13 inch tv into our tent trailer, so that no one could nag me for not playing outside and was able to watch to my heart's content. It was perhaps the most I had paid attention to any sporting event at that stage of my life, which probably contributes to why it was so memorable.

Canada went on to get a respectable 22 medals, their best performance of the past 25 years during the summer games. The standout event was by far the 100 m. Donovan Bailey went on to set a new record of 9.84 seconds taking home a gold in the event as well as anchoring the 4x 100 relay to gold.

It was a classic moment for Canadian sports.

The subsequent dispatching of Michael Johnson by Donovan in a 150 m, one on one, USA vs. Canada, see who really is the world's fastest man, event was also awesome.

Jason Says:

Undoubtedly, the number one moment in Olympic history, in the hearts and minds of all true Canadians has to be Team Canada’s performance in the 2002 winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. In particular, the efforts of Joe Sakic. As millions across Canada listened to Bob Cole (A decorated Newfoundlander) call it, ,“Barnaby Joe” carried his team on his shoulders, posting four points including the game-winning goal in a 5-2 win, and his place in Canadian Olympic history. A 50-year Olympic drought ended by a true legend.

This victory put Canada back on the map as legit hockey champions, not a country that couldn’t back up what it preached. You could see the overwhelming sense of nationalism on the faces of the players, the Canadian fans, and of course…Gretzky! I can’t even remember what happened in Nagano.

Shout out to Catriona Le May Doan.
