Things You May Not Know About the World Cup...

  • The Trophy is 14.2 inches high, made of solid 18 carat gold and weighs 13.6 lbs. World Cup winners retain the trophy until the next tournament and are awarded a gold-plated replica rather than the solid gold original.
  • Brazil has won the World Cup a record five times, and they are the only team to have played in every tournament.
  • The 2014 World Cup will be held in Brazil.
  • The World Cup is the most widely viewed sporting event in the world. An estimated 715.1 million people watched the final match of the 2006 World Cup held in Germany.
  • England’s third goal in the 1966 final, irrespective of what some believe, did not cross the line and should not have counted as a goal!
  • The only time that East Germany met West Germany in a game of football happened at the 1974 World Cup. East Germany ran out 1-0 victors; West Germany went on to win the World Cup that year!

Outdoor Soccer Tournament - August 21

Hey Soccer Fans! Let’s face it, perhaps you can bend it like Beckham but you’re not making the World Cup anytime soon. If you’re looking for a chance at glory, the ESSC is hosting another Outdoor Soccer Tournament on Saturday, August 21. All teams are welcome (we thought a 3 year qualification phrase was just a bit over the top…)

Our last Outdoor Soccer Tournament was a blast. Don't believe us? Check out our Facebook group page for the snaps! Click Here for more info regarding our upcoming tournament!

It Doesn't matter if Beckham's not playing...this picture is necessary!

Lady Bing Winners

Grassholes

We formed the Grassholes soccer club as a small group of friends who switched our summer team from flag football to soccer. None of us played much soccer for years, and we were grouped together with other single players of similar skill level looking for a team. We never expected to win many games, just wanting to learn or re-learn the sport and enjoy the summer weather. We lost every game in the season, with the last playoff game cumulating in a thrilling shootout. However we made lots of new friends on the team, and stayed in touch through the winter. This spring we signed up the Grassholes again, and even brought in more friends to the team. We also put together a few bucks to purchase team shirts and netting for the goalposts, which we get great feedback for. It makes the games more fun, and everyone on both teams loves the look and feel of a goal hitting the netting. We still don’t win many games, but everyone has a great time both at the game and one of the local bars afterwards.

Schweatty Balls

Schweatty Balls has been playing for three seasons now and they have discovered that they are way better playing in sand then in a gym! The team has 12 members; Including a lot of teachers and a few random other players and a really scary captain who makes everyone work hard!!

Pink Wife Beaters

We are a group of friends that love to play sports and have fun together. We've always wore pink as a team when we play dodgeball. Thought it would be funny to get the guys to wear pink wife beaters this season. We enjoy dodgeball and we're always looking forward to the next game!
