Spring Weather:
+30 from here on out…
The weather will improve…. It has to! We know that the weather
hasn’t been great this season, and by ‘hasn’t been great’
we mean it really sucks! We just want to make sure that you all
know that we appreciate your hardiness through the poor
weather and the forecast for next week
is better than what we have had. We think it means the
summer season will be +30 everyday!
Thanks
again for your patience with Mother Nature, we know she has
received a few tongue lashings from the office staff lately…

UFC 84: Predictions from an amateur…
A little ‘ill will’ has never hurt anyone as
bad as it will hurt the guys this weekend at UFC 84…
By
no means am I a professional on the world of MMA; not long
ago I was actually a skeptic of the sport, that was until
April 21st,
2007
.
The first fight I ever really, truly watched was Arlovski vs Werdum and although it wasn’t the best fight, I was hooked.
Since then I have seen incredible bouts that have displayed
skill and endurance that seems at times to be super human.
Saturday’s
card will be one of the best of the year. Penn vs
Sherk in a title match for the LW division. A couple LHW fights
that will likely be some of the most entertaining I’ve ever
seen, a couple of really good prelim fights and we may even
get to see Ivan Salaverry, a good old Canadian boy.
My Picks for the main 3 fights:
Lightweight Championship bout:
B.J. Penn vs.
Sean Sherk
+ Penn / - Sherk: these
guys do not like each other. Penn has been playing off of
Sherks failed drug test and Sherk
hasn’t taken it lightly. Sherk can out cardio Penn in the ring but I don’t think he
will have the opportunity to… TKO Round II.
Light Heavyweight bout:
Tito Ortiz vs.
Lyoto Machida
+Ortiz / - Machida: I’m
not going to lie, I choosing Ortiz because he is dating Jenna
Jameson. Tito will take
Machida to the ground and dominate
him, just like Jenna has taught him…
Light Heavyweight bout:
Wanderlei Silva vs.
Keith Jardine
+Silva / - Jardine: Here
you have two of the greatest ring names in the business,
The Dean of Mean Keith Jardine
and The Axe Murderer Wanderlei
Silva. I think The Axe Murderer will take out the Dean in
this match. Although Jardine beat C. Liddell
one of my all time favorites, I think that Silva will be
too aggressive and will take him out. Sorry Dean, schools
out! (I know, how cliché) … KO Round II.
If
you want to check out a great opinion site on the fights,
one that is much more reliable and informed than myself,
check out http://fiveouncesofpain.com
and get out to the fights on Saturday!

Joint Use Agreement (JUA): Want to know how our gym rental
program runs? Have you been hearing things on the news?
The City of Edmonton has formed a new agreement
with the School Board for the 2008/2009 indoor season. I
have attended numerous hours of meetings and focus groups
with them and am personally quite happy with the outcome.
Ultimately
the new JUA will allow for better availability of gym time,
far less last minute cancellations by
the schools, improved equipment and potentially the ability
to play adult soccer and floor hockey in facilities that
we have not been able to use for those sports in the past!
Although
these changes come with substantial rental rate increases,
we are excited that we can expand our programs and satisfy
the demand. The JUA will improve our ability to offer all
sports at multiple skill levels several times per week. Hopefully
you’ll be able to play what you want when you want… this
is our ultimate goal.
There
are groups that are fighting these changes as they do not
want to pay user fees for the gyms. Personally, I prefer
to pay to ensure improved future use of facilities. Unfortunately,
nothing in life is free as we are seeing by the rising gas
prices… $1.29 this morning!
