Staff Testimonial & ESSC Culture

Overview:

The SSC culture (Calgary and Edmonton offices) is built on a foundation of high performance and results, along with teamwork and collaboration. We place a strong emphasis on hiring exceptional people and giving them the tools and guidance that they need to excel in their roles. New staff are given strong support and direction but are encouraged to gain freedom through commitment and results. Weekly goal setting meetings help each employee to have a plan for success. Our motto around here is ‘Work Hard, Play Hard’ and we live in that culture every day. We also like to have fun: staff lunches and celebrations, staff outings, participation on staff sport teams, out of town trips to Banff, Sylvan Lake and Edmonton are all some examples of the team bonding that we do.

A note from our Calgary Field Staff Manager (Justin):

Sports have always been a very large passion of mine – both professional and amateur. When there was an opportunity to become a member of the SSC family back in 2011, I wasted no time and jumped at the opportunity.

The staff at the SSC are creative, like-minded individuals who share the same passion for sport that I do. We bond together in a strong team-setting to provide quality sport offerings for thousands of Calgarians annually. Since starting with the SSC, I have made numerous friendships with both employees and players of the Club. If a team atmosphere is something that you admire and you have a thriving passion for sport, the SSC is the workplace for you.

Some of my favorite aspects of being the Field Staff Manager include:

  • Recruiting – Meeting and interviewing applicants for the Games Coordinator (GC) and Field Maintenance Coordinator (FMC) Positions.
  • Management – Leading a team of passionate and dedicated GCs and FMCs who are passionate about providing the best experience possible for the SSC players.
  • Scheduling – Piecing together the GC schedule based off employee availability.
  • Player Feedback – Analyzing player feedback regarding the GC program.
  • Facilities – Working with the facility team to acquire rentals and to improve on our existing line-up.
  • Relationship Building – Nurturing relationships with players, facility staff and SSC employees.

The Field Staff Manager role is a challenging and rewarding position that never presents a dull moment. If you have a passion for player experience, meeting new people and building relationships through sport, this is the job for you!
