So you want to start playing squash but have no idea how to choose a racquet besides picking your favourite colour? Well I am here to help. Although colour is very important as you do want to look good when playing (and perhaps even coordinate your shoes to your racquet), there are some other factors to consider.

Consistency of Play: Are you looking to play every once in a while? Or are you planning to play multiple times a week? If you are playing a lot, you should consider investing in a higher quality racquet that will last.

Weight: The heavier the racquet, the harder it is to control and the more power it produces. Lighter racquets are opposite: easy to control with less power.

Price: It is important to set a budget prior to buying a squash racquet. Racquets range from $15- $250+. The higher the price, the more elite the racquet. Keeping in mind, racquets do break and if you are a new player who might, on occasion hit the wall, it would be a good idea to start off with a less expensive racquet.

When you become a more advance player there are other factors to consider when purchasing a racquet; strings, beam, balance, grip, composition and racquet throat shape.

Like most personal sports equipment, it often comes down to personal preference. We recommend going into the store and handle multiple racquets to see what you prefer.
