Which way to the beach? The answer to that question has always been South Edmonton, but no more. The ESSC is proud to present the Woodcroft beach volleyball courts at the Woodcroft Community League (13915 115 Ave) located in North West Edmonton! This is a brand new four court facility built in partnership with the Woodcroft Community League. The concept for this project began in early 2015 and is now wrapped up and ready for our player’s enjoyment!

Since the Lendrum beach courts expanded to include the interior rink in 2012, ESSC beach volleyball has grown from 250 to over 330 teams per year. Edmonton loves beach! When we make any league improvements we always have our player’s best interests in mind. We wanted to make sure we provided our players with the best experience possible so they can get out in the sun to enjoy playing beach. Woodcroft was our number one choice of facility after looking at over 40 different community league rinks in Edmonton. As a North option, players will experience true citywide beach when playing with ESSC.

These courts are situated in a hockey rink - similar to Lendrum - which many players are familiar with. We worked with Lendrum to look at ways that these new courts could be different, as we always work to improve ESSC facilities. One difference is that Woodcroft has fencing around the entire courts - this means less jumping the boards to fetch your ball! There is also ample parking for all players in the parking lot beside the community centre. The ESSC is installing a shower/footwash station for players to rinse off after games. Plus, washrooms and water access is inside the community centre where players will have both male and female washrooms.

How do these new courts impact you as a player? In the Spring this will mean more early games and less late rotations. And in the Summer these courts will let ESSC use courts where we control the equipment and do the maintenance. The ESSC currently maintains Lendrum with the community league and we fix the equipment and we will be doing this for Woodcroft as well. Should issues arise, we can act quickly to get the courts fixed for you! There will also be less games booked at 3rd party sites, such as the John Fry beach courts, so say hello to more tunes coming at you during your games! This should also help our North side players who will enjoy some games that are closer to home!

We’re really excited for these courts and can’t wait to schedule you and your teams there to check them out!
