Staff Testimonial and ESSC Culture

Overview:
The SSC culture (Edmonton and Calgary offices), is a performance-oriented environment. We place a strong emphasis on hiring exceptional people and giving them all of the support that they need to excel in their roles. New staff are given strong guidance and nurturance, but are encouraged to gain freedom through commitment and results. Weekly goal setting meetings with their manager helps each staff member to create and execute a plan for success. Ongoing skill development sessions aid in increasing all employees effectiveness in their roles. We also like to have fun: frequent staff outings, our innovations program, out of town trips to Banff, Sylvan Lake, Calgary, etc. are a few examples of our work hard, play hard mentality.

A note from our Current Field Advisor (Josh):

Being able to work for the ESSC right after coming out of school has been a dream come true! I would have never thought that I would be able to find a full-time job that has so much to do with sports! Working for the ESSC was great because oftentimes it did not feel like work. While I, along with all of my coworkers, worked very hard each and every day, the atmosphere was always very positive and fun because of the nature of the work we do. Being able to say that you looked forward to going into the office each day was something that I was very happy that I had found in a job.

I will be very sad to leave my role as the Field Advisor, all of my GCs, and everyone in the ESSC Office. As someone who has sports on the brain basically at all times, I couldn’t have imagined being able to have a job and work in an office that matches that as perfectly as the SSC does. The atmosphere is truly unique and I have loved my time working with everyone in both cities and look forward to assisting both clubs in whatever way I can going forward. Some of the things I will miss most about being Field Advisor are:

• The positive interactions with my 50+ Games Coordinators and the friendly team-atmosphere that we created
• Discussing and improving a multitude of sports from Basketball to Dodgeball to Beach Volleyball
• Each day being different, exciting, fun, and challenging all at once
• Working with all the great people inside and outside of the office
