Ball Hockey

The classic Canadian pastime.

ESSC Co-ed Ball Hockey Leagues (which you also know as Floor Hockey) allow you to leave the cold chill of the arena behind while still experiencing a fun full-body workout. With a variety of offerings, there's a league for anyone looking to get in the game at a recreational level. See for yourself why Ball Hockey is one of the ESSC's longest standing and most popular indoor sports.

After your game, meet up with your teammates and other players to enjoy exclusive food and drink specials at one of the ESSC's many Sponsor Bars around Edmonton!

  • Afternoon/Evening Leagues: 4pm to 8:30pm

  • Afternoon Leagues: 12pm to 5:30pm

4 on 4 - Co-ed

Games are played 4 on 4 (not including the goalie) with a minimum of two female players on the court.

4 on 4 - Co-ed - Masters

Are you 40+? Our Masters format is built for people 40 years of age or older! Games are played 4 on 4 (not including the goalie) with a minimum of two female players on the court.

5 on 5 - Open - Premium

Games are played 5 on 5 (not including the goalie) with no specific gender requirements, at a premium facility. This means games are played on a full-sized rink surface and there are no stick restrictions.

5 on 5 - Co-ed

Games are played 5 on 5 (not including the goalie) with a minimum of two female players on the court.

5 on 5 - Open - Draft

INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATIONS ONLY! Register solo and participate in a live draft at the beginning of the season to find your team. In this format, your registration includes a pre-season draft party as well as new team t-shirts for the season, and everyone is welcome regardless of skill or gender.

Divisions are based on the experience and skills of a team - not on their competitive behaviour! No matter what skill level you register for, all players are expected to play with a 'fun-first, winning-second' attitude.

Please note that the below divisions may not be offered every season or day. If you have any questions about the different skill levels or where to place yourself, just call us!

Recreational

This division is for teams who are newer to the sport, or teams that consist of a mix of experienced and inexperienced players. Some players may still be learning the rules of Ball Hockey, meaning the flow of the game will not always be natural. If the majority of players are experienced and skilled, then the team should move up to a higher level if available.

Recreational Plus

This division is for teams with mainly experienced Ball Hockey players. The flow of the game will be quicker than the Recreational division as there will be fewer stoppages and rule clarifications. Players can shoot and pass with accuracy, goalies are more skilled, and the team is looking for more of a challenge than the Recreational level. Not all players in this division are highly skilled, but players are experienced and knowledgeable in the sport.
