OSM Overview

Overview:

This is a newly created position within the Management team of the Sport and Social Club. The ESSC has expanded exponentially since inception in 2004 and has now identified the need to have someone who can act as a right hand support for the General Manager on high impact day-to-day operations, Club development, staff leadership and overall process management. The successful candidate will enjoy working with planners, logistics and systems, have a critical eye for detail, a drive to complete all tasks to the highest ability, a desire to work on diverse tasks, the confidence to lead a room and the willingness to support the team however needed. This is a permanent long-term position with a primary focus on operations and a secondary but still important focus on leadership.

The OSM will be primarily mentored and trained by the General Manager, Director, Program Development Manager and HR Manager. However, they will also have frequent opportunities to collaborate and work closely with the two Managers of League Operations and two Marketing Managers in the Edmonton office.

It is expected that the successful candidate will experience a steep learning curve in their first 4-6 months. However, we place a strong emphasis on hiring exceptional people and giving them all of the support that they need to excel in their roles. New staff are given strong support and direction, but are encouraged to gain freedom through commitment and results. Ongoing skill development sessions increase admin staff and managers’ effectiveness in their roles. We also like to have fun: frequent staff outings, participation on staff sport teams, out of town trips to Banff, Sylvan Lake, Calgary, etc. are a few examples of our play hard, work hard mentality.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to dive into a leadership role focused on business development, systems and general operations management at Edmonton’s largest provider of adult recreational sports leagues, tournaments and events. This position has been created to fill a void in a rapidly developing company and to provide additional support while the General Manager is on maternity leave commencing in late November. Training for the new hire will be provided, but given the steep learning curve of the position, related experience in systems and operations management is an asset.

  4. Manager Support: Acting as a support for the General Manager, Managers of Leagues Operations and Marketing Managers as required to help disperse workloads during the busiest times of the year, when turn-over occurs, during coverage for mat leaves, when staff are on holidays, etc.
