Format and Rosters

League Format

The ESSC offers multiple Slo-Pitch Formats:

 Format    Description
Traditional This is the classic format of Slo-Pitch where teams play one game per week. This format plays out of citywide diamond locations.  
Legends 35+ This is the classic format of Slo-Pitch, for players who are 35 years of age or older. Teams will play one game per week out of citywide diamond locations.
Regional This traditional format plays out of region specific diamond locations. Regions to choose from include: North, South, West, East and Central.
Premium -
Fenced
This traditional format plays out fenced diamonds at John Fry, Goldstick and Airway Park. Players get to enjoy high quality diamonds, that are groomed and lined before each booking.
  • All Slo-Pitch Leagues are self-officiated.

Game Format

  • All diamond bookings are 1.5 hours in length.
  • Games are 7 innings in length.
    • Some diamonds will have an early and late game. The two captains in the early game must ensure that the game gets started on time and is finished before the start of the late game.
    • Playing extra innings to break a tie is not encouraged, but the captains may decide on this if time permits and there is no late game scheduled on the diamond.
    • A new inning may not be started with less than 10 minutes before the start of the next game.
  • A team can score a maximum of 7 runs in one inning with the exception of the final inning where there are unlimited runs.

Season Length

  • The majority of 8 Week Slo-Pitch Leagues use the following structure:
    • 6 weeks of regular season games.*
    • 2 weeks of playoff games.
  • All 16 Week Slo-Pitch Leagues use the following structure:
    • 13 weeks of seeding / regular season games (seeding round is dependent on the number of teams registered).
    • 3 weeks of playoff games.
       
  • All 5 Week (Fall) Slo-Pitch Leagues use the following structure:
    • 4 regular season games***
    • 1 week of playoffs.
       
  • In cases where rain-outs occur, games are made up via double-headers or season extensions (1-2 weeks).
  • Games are always played on the Monday of long weekends.

* Summer Weekend Leagues: Teams will have a scheduled double-header. The 6 regular season games will take place over 5 weeks.
*** Fall Leagues: Teams will have a scheduled double-header. The 4 regular season games will take place over 3 weeks.

Playoffs

  • Playoff Format: Spring / Summer (8 Week)
    • All teams are guaranteed 2 playoff games.
    • Only the Top 4 teams will compete for the League Championship.
       
  • Playoff Format: Spring / Summer (16 Week)
    • All teams are guaranteed 3 playoff games.
    • The Top 8 teams will compete for the League Championship.
       
  • ​Playoff Format: Fall (5 Week)
    • All teams are guaranteed 1 playoff game.
    • Only the Top 2 teams will compete for the League Championship.
       
  • League champs will receive T-shirts that can be picked up from the Season-End Party.
  • There are no ties in playoffs. 
    • If the score is tied at the end of 7 innings, one or more extra innings will be played:
      • Both teams get a chance to hit. If after 1 extra inning the game is still tied, the next extra inning(s) will be played using the International Scoring Rule.
      • International Scoring Rule: Each team (when at bat) will start with the player who was the final out of the previous inning on 2nd base, then proceed as normal from there.

  • When registering a full team, there is no limit to the maximum number of players you can have on the roster.
  • Prior to the first game of the season, teams must have 10 players confirmed on the roster in MyESSC. This number is equal to the total number of players required on the field in the above chart.
    • If the minimum amount of confirmed roster players is not met, the team will receive a loss for every game played until the requirement is met.
  • Prior to the first playoff game, teams must have all players who are playing in the playoff game(s) displayed as part of the confirmed roster in MyESSC.
    • If this requirement is not met, teams will receive an automatic loss and will not be eligible for the championship.
  • A team may bring in subs that are not listed on the roster. To learn more about the sub policies, click here.
