It’s a Trap!

I hate to break it to you but a ‘trap’ in Dodgeball doesn’t happen as often as you think. Just look it up in our Dodgeball rulebook and you’ll find that a ‘trap’ is a ball that is caught and hits the ground or wall at the same time. Like, the EXACT SAME TIME. This is then considered a dead ball and no one is eliminated or comes back on.

One way to look at it is if the ground or the wall wasn’t there, the catch would have been easily made by the player. The ground or wall actually interfered with the player catching the ball.

The key to this rule is that the ball touches the ground or wall at the same time and a player does not intentionally pin the ball against the ground or the wall. If this is done intentionally, they are out. A player cannot use the ground or the wall to their advantage. Here are a couple examples of a player intentionally pinning the ball:

THESE ARE NOT TRAPS! Now, I would love to insert some footage of what a trap looks like, but after over 100 takes, we could not film one properly. Why? Because they RARELY happen.

Be a team player and make sure you and your team are clear on this rule; if you need any further clarification, ask your GC! Cheers.
