We've Got Spirit, Yes We Do. We've Got Spirit, How 'Bout You?

Thursday, March 30, 2023

A NEW SPIRIT POINT SYSTEM IS IN TOWN. At the Sport and Social Club, ‘improvement’ is the name of the game. We are constantly seeking feedback from our players because our Club wouldn’t be our Club without you. Over the past several months, our team has been working on a full overhaul of our Spirit Point System to better match what our players value most, and to make our processes for managing sportsmanship issues at league nights cleaner and faster. This past Winter 2023 season, several divisions were selected to trial the new system and provide their feedback. Their feedback?

Keeping Things in Line is Never a Drag

DID YOU KNOW?...
...That we have a Field Maintenance Program?
...That we invest tens of thousands of dollars each year into this program?
...That we maintain an average of 90 playing fields each season?

Most players are aware of the City’s involvement in sports field maintenance, but not many are aware of the Club’s involvement. Call it a humble brag, but we’re proud of the program we’ve built and we want YOU to know about it.

Show Your EC Appreciation

Our Event Coordinators are players just like you that volunteer to help facilitate our Indoor Volleyball, Badminton, Flag Football, Ultimate, and Tennis leagues. They play a huge role in ensuring that all players enjoy themselves each and every night. Tasks include bringing equipment to the gym/field, setting up, doing the pre-game announcements, keeping the games on time, reporting the scores to the office, and more!

Running Routes in Flag Football

Wednesday, August 1, 2018

Are you new to Football or wanting to add some fresh strategy in to your game? One of the foundational strategies in Flag Football comes down to running routes.

A route is a path that a receiver runs in order to get open for a forward pass.

Instead of everyone running around like chickens with their heads cut off, why not try to coordinate in the huddle which route the receivers should run?

Check out this route map below:

Football Terminology

Wednesday, July 18, 2018

Understanding sports today is more complex than just knowing how to play, it also involves knowing the language of the sport being played. Each sport has its own unique language when it comes to describing rules and plays. Hockey has “slap shot”, baseball has “outs”, and soccer has “headers”. Now those three terms are fairly self-explanatory and people can get the gist of what they mean. But when it comes to football, there is some terminology that is a bit confusing to people who are new to the game.

Flag Football Females Wanted

Wednesday, August 16, 2017

Hi ladies! All ESSC Flag Football leagues require a minimum of 2 females on the field at all times. In our experience, it can be difficult for teams to recruit enough females to play. Well, here’s a quick list of why you and your female friends should sign-up:

Flag Football Tips

Tuesday, January 12, 2016

Football as a sport is vastly popular; that’s old news. It is an institution amongst not only Americans, but us Canucks as well. It’s an explosive sport that is so fun to watch and play, but it’s not just a bunch of people on a gridiron tossing around the pigskin. Football is a complex game; full of subtle rules and playing styles. With that in mind, it’s understandable that football can be intimidating for some, especially if you have not had much experience playing or watching the game.

What's it Like Registering as an Individual?

Wednesday, March 1, 2017

One of the most common misconceptions people have when they hear "Sports League" is that if they don't have a full team to register, they're out of luck. That’s not true at all! We are happy to offer an opportunity for those interested to register individually as well.

There are many reasons why someone would choose to register as an individual, but in the end they can all expect the same thing:

Big Brother is Watching … Lady Bing Awareness!

Wednesday, September 28, 2016

Above all else, the ESSC is a Recreational Sports League! Our goal is to encourage as many people as possible to throw their running shoes on and to enjoy themselves no matter what their skill level may be. If you didn’t already know, our motto actually is “fun-first, winning-second” and it’s a slogan we strongly believe in. We’re very dedicated to running leagues with positive sportsmanship. Although we follow-up with teams that are not meeting that expectation, we also keep an eye out for the teams that proudly represent it.
