We've Got Spirit, Yes We Do. We've Got Spirit, How 'Bout You?

Thursday, March 30, 2023

A NEW SPIRIT POINT SYSTEM IS IN TOWN. At the Sport and Social Club, ‘improvement’ is the name of the game. We are constantly seeking feedback from our players because our Club wouldn’t be our Club without you. Over the past several months, our team has been working on a full overhaul of our Spirit Point System to better match what our players value most, and to make our processes for managing sportsmanship issues at league nights cleaner and faster. This past Winter 2023 season, several divisions were selected to trial the new system and provide their feedback. Their feedback?

Choose Your Own Destiny – The Multi-Sport Playoff Format

Wednesday, December 5, 2018

Multi-Sport (MTS) has been our most unique offering since it was introduced in Winter 2015 and the playoffs are no different! One of the best aspects of Multi-Sport is the playoff structure. Since MTS was such a unique breed, we needed a unique playoff format to keep players engaged and level the playing field.

It’s our only sport where players actually get to have a say in their playoff match-up. Here’s how it works:

How Scores are Calculated for Different Sports: Part Deux

Wednesday, April 18, 2018

Hello again everyone! Welcome to Part Deux of how scores are calculated in Mulit-Sport! As mentioned in Part Un, Multi-Sport has to account for the different sports that are played each week to make sure team’s scores aren’t skewed from one week. Games Coordinators Now at All Outdoor Games

Wednesday, March 14, 2018

As the Spring season quickly approaches, we hope your team is thinking about what to play next!

If you’ve played Multi-Sport before in the Spring/Summer, you may know that in previous years the Games Coordinators (GCs) wouldn’t be at most of the outdoor games. This meant teams would need to record and report scores themselves, as well as answer any questions or simmer any issues.

We are always trying to find new ways to help out our players, and starting in Spring 2018 we will now have Games Coordinators at all games: indoors and out!

When it comes to calculating points for, points against, and point differentials for teams in a single sport league, it’s pretty straight forward. But when it comes to calculating those same values for teams in a standard Multi-Sport league, it’s a bit more complicated.

Don't be that Team; Learn the Rules!

Wednesday, May 10, 2017

Have you ever started a game absolutely positive that the other team walked out onto the court immediately following this conversation?

6:57pm – Okay, let’s play!

6:58pm – So, what are the rules?

6:59pm – I… I’m not sure. Well…. Umm… we’ll just. Screw it. We’ll just make ‘em up.

7:00pm – Game on!

Don’t be that team, seriously. People don’t want to play that team.

Finding a Sub: The Struggle is Real

Wednesday, January 18, 2017

We have all experienced those players on our team, you know, the one who only shows up to about 40% of your league games. Their excuses are always (somewhat) valid – “I’m swamped at work,” “My car got stuck in the snow,” “I had to feed Mr. Meowington” – but they usually pay their league fees in full and they’re always up for a post-game beer, so we put up with them anyway.

You don’t want to play short (again) so you need to find a sub. This can sometimes be a tedious task, so here are a few tips to help simplify your quest:
